I learned this trick when our washer died. After thinking the washer would miraculously start working again, trying to fix it myself, waiting for service (only to be told our four-year old washer was irreparable), and shopping for a new one, the laundry in our home had become unmanageable. Knowing there was no alternative, I loaded the baskets of laundry into the car and headed to the laundromat. Now going to the laundromat was the last thing I wanted to do. I would have much rather done laundry in the comfort of my own home. However, I soon realized it was a blessing in disguise. There in rows were washers and dryers, and I could do all my loads at once. It was fairly empty, so I took over most of the machines. There were no distractions to stop me from walking away from the task at hand. In one hour, I had washed, dried, and folded multiple weeks of laundry. What a wonderful feeling it was to have the family's entire laundry done. There was no clothing in the house that needed washing. Not one piece. That rarely happens in our home.
Now, I don’t know about you, but laundry is one of my least favorite activities. I try to do a load every morning and I usually keep on top of it this way, but that does not always happen. When our lives get busy with activities or we return from a trip, the laundry can fall by the wayside, and we get what we call the overwhelming “laundry bomb.” Now whenever this occurs, I put it all in the car, drive to the laundromat and within an hour it is all done, and I'm able to return to a normal laundry schedule at home.
