Why Gold Pans? The Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon benefits the Clear Creek Booster Club which supports Clear Creek High and Middle Schools, otherwise known as the Golddiggers. Idaho Springs was the birthplace of the Colorado gold rush, and the old high school once sat very near the spot where George A. Jackson discovered gold in 1859. The marathon is the main fundraiser for the club, which offers scholarships, purchases sporting equipment, and helps pay for school activities.
