This last week I attended my first witches' tea. The event was a fundraiser for a local charity, but there is no reason this can be done for only friends. The event can be hosted at home, but what made this event so much fun is that it what was held at an actual tea room in an old Victorian building. Plus, if it is held a tea room, this is a very easy, but memorable, party to throw.
Step 1: Find a venue and set the menu
There are many tea rooms throughout the United States, some larger and smaller than others. In this instance, a smaller tea room works best. Call around and see if any near you would be willing to let you rent out the place or a private room. It was fun to watch muggles come up to the window and stare at the room full of witches. The owners even got into the festivities and dressed as witches. As the event I attended was for charity, all the witches contributed a minimum of $25 each to attend and included a silent auction. Serve a menu of teas, delicacies, soup, and tea sandwiches.
Step 2: Select a date and send the invitation
As this is a non-alcoholic party, a weeknight is perfect. However, if you plan on spiking the tea, you may want to move it to the weekend. If you have a lot of working witches, give them ample time to fly their brooms to the tea room. Be perfectly clear in the invitation to come in witch attire and let them know there will be a costume contest.
Step 3: Decorate
This is where holding it at a Victorian tea room is the key. It has already been decorated perfectly for the event. All you need to do is decorate the tables.

The centerpieces at this event were simply clear vases with black and purple flowers. Each guest received a goody bag in an orange Halloween paper bag. The owner allowed the host to decorate parts of the tea room with Halloween lights. Simple as this all sounds, the atmosphere was extremely festive.
Step 4: Don't forget the name tags!
No well-heeled host would throw a party without name tags. In this case, everyone gets a witch's name. As some people will not be available to come up quickly with a creative name, do it ahead of time for them using a witch name generator.
Step 5: Fashion show and contest
Now what's the use of dressing up if no one can see your spooktacular outfit? If everyone is sitting, that could happen. So be sure to ask each witch to show off her outfit, and then have all the guests vote for most glamorous witch, most creative witch, and scariest witch. Have an appropriate prize for each winner.
That's it! Not a lot of work for an incredibly unique party that will be sure to become an annual event.
